Design Trek: The Next Generation
From reconstructed tea sets to "chairorrist" plots, designs from these Westerners are the talk of the town.
Ben Dokuchie
It was the good people of Victoria's epicurean shop Plenty that turned us on to Ben Dokuchie's woodworking. The shelving he designed for them smelled like graham crackers (it was made of wheatboard – who knew ecochic could smell so good?), and we looked into his side business: designing modern furniture with purpose – clean-lined, warm wood pieces that aren't afraid to be a bit quirky. Take Dokuchie's Dot cabinet: playful dots on the glass doors are meant to mimic the cell structure of wood.
